The Cadiz Main Street Program and Janice Mason Art Museum are taking a familiar concept in farm-to-table and making it something new.

The two programs have teamed up to host the first-ever "Dinner on Main" April 29 in Cadiz. Organizers will block off the section of Main Street between Marion and Monroe streets, and host a buffet style dinner and banquet table set up right outside -- yes, on the street. Volunteers will decorate the block in ambient lighting and magnolias, and serve dishes contributed from local restaurants for the day. Contributors include The Cabin Coffee and Cafe, Cadiz Restaurant, Lake Barkley State Resort Park, Hancocks Neighborhood Market and Wallonia Restaurant, among others, as well local farmer's market participants.

Main Street Program Director Leida Underhill said she was excited about the potential of the event.

"It's really going to be a nice evening," Underhill said. "It's just a time to sit back, relax and just enjoy, honestly. â ¦ I'm anxious to see how it's (going to come together). I had been wanting to do it, and they got on board. I'm thrilled. People have been talking about the farm-to-table thing, and I knew that wouldn't work with us because of the time we were able to fit it in with everything we wouldn't have garden food from the farmer's market at that point. But still, having the community to be involved with donations and things like that, it's just great."

Underhill said she had been working in partnership with JMAM board president Paul Fourshee, as well as board member Kim Fortner and Director Joan Demers to pull the effort together. The team has been working to make the event a reality for about the last year, she said. The event will serve as the newest fundraiser for the Janice Mason Art Museum, replacing the swing dance held in previous years.

"That did its time and was really enjoyed by a lot of people for a great, long period," she said. "And now it's time to do a different fundraiser."

The event will kick off with hors d'oeuvres at 6 p.m. at the museum at 71 Main Street; dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Main Street.

In addition to the meal, musicians Jon Prudhomme and Denny Lacy will perform during the event, and ticket holders will be eligible to win a number of door prizes, Underhill said. Organizers hope to sell 100 tickets for the event.

Tickets are $50 apiece and may be obtained at the museum.

For more information, call 270-522-9056. Deadline to purchase is Friday.

Those who wish to contribute to the meal may still participate, as well. Vendors may contact Underhill at 270-522-8244 for more information.

In the event of rain, the dinner will be held in the Cadiz Baptist Church Annex.
