Great art city
Tuesday, July 27, 2004
I was recently in Hopkinsville taking care of family business and took time off on June 24, 2004, at the invitation of longtime friend, Portia Ezell, to spend the morning in Cadiz. She had been telling me about the Janice Mason Art Museum since its beginning and this was the first opportunity that I had to see it.
Knowing Portia as I do, I was expecting an adequate space, but what I found was a well-appointed and charming gallery with a top-notch exhibit by William Renzulli. I was bowled over by what had been achieved in the transformation of the building while retaining its architectural integrity.
Portia proclaimed that it was a nice little place for Cadiz. I beg to differ. I live in a city of 110,000 people and I can tell you than any arts community would be proud to have what the people of Cadiz/Trigg County already have sitting right there on Main Street.
I lived in Hopkinsville for almost 26 years and even worked at the radio station in 1967. There was little of the cultural nature of the Janice Mason Art Museum in the area when I left the Pennyrile in 1975 to broaden my horizons.
I urge the citizens of Trigg County to expand their horizons by attending and supporting this little jewel box that they have right in their own front yard. Cadiz can be very proud of all of their accomplishments and this is a great addition to a town I like to call Main Street, USA.
Sincerely,
