After almost two months of hard work from the cast and crew, this year’s summer musical, “Alice in Wonderland,” will premiere this Friday at 7 p.m. in the high school’s Little Theater.

Everyone is especially excited this year because of the new lighting and sound system that was recently installed in the theater. In the past, some audience members have complained that they couldn’t hear what was happening onstage, especially from the back of the theater. That should change this year, the play’s director, Portia Ezell, said.

Last Friday night, cast members were going through their scenes while the crew worked out a few last-minute technical kinks. While taking a break, a few young actors spoke to The Cadiz Record about their excitement at being in the show.

Nine-year-old Jamee Noel said she was having a fun time playing the Dormouse, one of several loony characters that Alice meets in the Mad Tea Party scene. Dallas Hart, who plays the Mad Hatter, said he was enjoying playing his part, wearing a giant hat and denying Alice tea.

“The main thing in this play you’ve got to remember is we’re all mad,” Hart said.

One fun thing about this particular show, cast members said, is that it gives them a chance to wear all kinds of crazy costumes. Alayna Anderson, as the Griffin, said she wears a very long beak and gets to dance the tango. Faythe Rea said that in her Cheshire Cat costume, she can’t use anything but head.
