Sixty-five years after the Trigg County Lions Club convened its first meeting, present-day members from several clubs, former members, friends, family and guests stopped at the Cadiz Renaissance Center on Saturday to celebrate the chapter’s anniversary.

Current President Eldon Pontius welcomed Lions and supporters. “I’ve been in the Lions Club for four years. In that short period, we’ve had a lot of fun and got a lot of gratifying work done.” He thanked Lions Nadine Abel and Charlotte Brown for research into the club’s history, and Sharon Orvits and Alicia Pontius, with the rest of the membership for planning the anniversary party.

The Lions surrounded the lectern with several trophies and awards, including the Lions’ governors Cup, Friendship Cup, a Traveling Lion award, and the Trigg County Veterans’ Day Parade’s Judge/Executive’s trophy for their float.

“We’re involved in several fundraisers, the annual Easter egg hunt, and have displays for Christmas at the park and the Janice Mason Art Museum,” said Pontius. “I’m proud to be in this club. We also have a Peace Poster winner at the club, district and state level. That shows what caliber of people we have in our community.”

Judge/Executive Stan Humphries said, “We are fortunate to have people in the community that see a need and have a vision for this club. I’m here as Judge/Executive and as a citizen to say thanks. When I think about a county with no Lions Club, there would be a lot of difference.”

Former International Director Yancy Wadkins of the Lions Club called the Cadiz chapter a “great club.” He said, “they have provided fantastic service this year and in previous years. It’s great to have occasions like engagements, weddings and anniversaries to celebrate. Now we take an opportunity to commend the Cadiz club for all it has done.”
