Hopkinsville native Brice Long performed with several special guests Saturday night at Hopkinsville’s James E. Bruce Convention Center to raise money for the Back to Back Foundation.

This was the third concert fundraiser for the foundation, which Long started in 2006 to purchase Christmas gifts for families in Christian County. For the second fundraiser concert, held in April 2007, the foundation’s objective was expanded to include Trigg County. This year’s event boasted performances by songwriters Odie Blackmon, Arlos Smith and David Chamberlain, who have written songs for such artists as Rascal Flatts, John Michael Montgomery and Tanya Tucker.

Before the concert, some of the event’s sponsors joined several families that the foundation has helped for dinner. Long presented gifts to sponsors and others that helped put on the show. He thanked everyone present.

“You guys are the backbone of what we do,” he said.

Before the show, Long said he was excited to be sharing the stage with the three songwriters, whom he said were good friends of hers. He said he thought the audience would enjoy hearing a few stories about the hit songs they wrote. Long also said he looked forward to putting on the event in the years to come.

“I hope people continue to come and support it,” he said.

At the beginning of the show, Smith apologized for having a hoarse throat. He said he had gotten a shot that morning for strep throat so that he still sing at the show, albeit in a scratchy voice.
