Kentucky’s poet laureate, Jane Gentry Vance, will give a reading at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at the Janice Mason Art Museum. The appearance is part of the museum’s 10th anniversary lecture series.

Vance became poet laureate in March 2007. According to the Kentucky Arts Council’s website, artscouncil.ky.gov, Vance is published as Jane Gentry, and her childhood in central Kentucky has “deeply influenced” her writing. She began teaching at Georgetown College in 1964 and became a faculty member at the University of Kentucky in 1972. She was awarded tenure and became the associate professor to the honors program in 1977. She was jointly appointed to the English department in 1988, became full professor in 1997 and was appointed to the English Graduate Faculty in 2005.
