With downtown roped off and booths lining Main Street for the Ham Festival, the Helping Hands Food Bank seizes the opportunity for a little fundraising with the “Big Biscuit” on Saturday morning at the Bank of Cadiz downtown branch parking lot.

“This year, we’ve added gravy to the menu so those who want it can enjoy sausage gravy served with their biscuit,” said Helping Hands Volunteer Phil Graham.

Using their famous recipe, the biscuit contained 150 pounds of flour, 11 gallons of buttermilk, baking soda, baking powder and yeast. Graham said that he was thankful for contributions from the following businesses, Hopkinsville Milling, Goldenrod Dairy, Broadbent B&B Foods, the Trigg County Schools Cafeteria, Goodwin’s Funeral home, Brown’s Tire and Automotive, the John L. Street Library, Cadiz Baptist Church, Light’s Plumbing, Wendy’s and Little River Propane and Gas.

Graham said that Helping Hands purchased packages of country ham at cost from Broadbent B&B Foods and could returned unopened and unused portions for a refund.

“To my best recollection, this is the fourth year Helping Hands has worked on the biscuit,” said Graham. “All the proceeds go towards buying food for our food bank.”
