Shirley Johnson has spent her life in the visual and performing arts as a musician, artist, and theatre producer-director. She holds a Bachelor's and two Master's degrees. Shirley is retired from Murray State University and has her own non-profit theatre production company, Twilight Cabaret Productions. She has been a painter for over 12 years and is offering a beginning silk painting workshop for the Janice Mason Art Museum.

The class will meet two evenings, Oct. 21 and Oct. 23, at 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Museum. The fee for the class is $35 for Museum members, and $40 for non-members which includes a $20 kit of supplies. Each participant will have a wearable hand painted scarf as a finished product. If you would like to have an image on your scarf, please bring a copy that is no larger than 24 inches square.

Examples of the artist's work may be seen in the Museum gift shop. The Janice Mason Art Museum is so pleased to be able to offer the experience and artistic creativity of Shirley Johnson as a part of the Museum's educational program.

If you would like to be included in this exciting silk painting workshop please contact the Janice Mason Art Museum at 522-9056 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The deadline for registration is Oct. 10. Partial funding for the Museum has been provided by the Kentucky Arts Council, a state agency in the Education, Arts and Humanities Cabinet with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
