You would think it was a night with the President. Oh! Wait just a minute, it was, the President of the Elementary School PTA, Jane Ann Lineberry, and the President of the Janice Mason Art Center, Paula Lisowsky. As cameras flashed, hugs were given, smiles were beaming and applause was greeting, the guests of honor made their way around the exhibits of the Janice Mason Art Center. The night was like the christening of a brand new ship ready to sail off on her maiden voyage with all its pomp and circumstance. It was in fact a night that will be remembered in the eyes and the hearts of the children, the parents, and the guests who attended the opening of the Elementary School Art Show at the Janice Mason Art Center for years to come.

The Third Annual JMAC Elementary School PTA Art Exhibit had its beginning under the direction of PTA President, Vicki Karrigan, and then elementary principal, Mary Ann Lander. Their vision has provided endless opportunities to spotlight the students' work in visual arts. Participation in this event is not a specific class assignment, but students choose to create their own artwork and enter it in the contest. According to Ann Taylor, principal of the elementary school, the work reflects the child's viewpoint on lots of things. She said, "The art pieces express what the children live". This event is also an excellent way to support the Arts and Humanities program at the elementary school. Who knows, maybe one day these students will be famous and their work will grace the halls of the White House or maybe they will be the interior designers for a cruise ship, or maybe it will hang in a special place in their home.

Through relationships and partnerships, these students have been given a chance to show their scholastic ability in the arts and that is a ship worth building. The elementary school PTA mats over 300 entries for the exhibit and the Cadiz Rotary Club frames the artwork of all the winners. Eileen Kehrwald and Ann Taylor, chairpersons of the exhibit, work closely with the PTA and Rotary Club members in preparing the Janice Mason Art Center for this most special exhibit. Board your ship and sail on down to see "something really special". If you missed the opening night gala event on January 10, with all the ties, party dresses, flowers, hair bows and most important, those great big smiles and giggles, you can still stop by and view the exhibit until January 29th.

Someone once said, "art is a universal language", and that is so true. In this exhibit you will see the language of freedom, love, joy, nature, the holidays, self-esteem, family, and the list could go on. What relationships we build everyday within our home, school and community! Relationships that tell our children, grandchildren, students, teachers and community persons the language of success that comes through partnerships is important as we sail through life.
