Trigg quilter's to have exhibit at JMAM
by The Cadiz Record Email News
Timed to coincide with the American Quilters Society Quilt Show in Paducah, "Quilts of Today" includes more than 25 pieces. "These pieces are wonderful examples of this rich, much-beloved art form," said Museum Board President Paula Lisowsky. "These artists have so beautifully combined the traditional with the innovative." The Trigg County Quilters Guild was organized in March 1983 as a special interest group under the auspices of the Extension Services of the University of Kentucky. The purpose of the group is to promote quilt making by giving special attention to collecting, preserving, and making quilts. The Guild maintains an open membership to any person regardless of race, color, creed, or national origin. The thirty-six charter members were all women from Trigg County. Membership has increased, reaching a peak membership of 95 in 1994. The present membership of sixty-four includes quilters, both women and men, from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Japan. Guild activities are numerous and varied. Monthly meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month. Mini "how-to" lessons and "Show 'n Tell" are part of each meeting. A quilt show is held each year during the Trigg County Country Ham Festival. The Guild makes one raffle quilt each year with proceeds going towards the purchase of resources for the group. "Quilts of Today" will be on display through May 11. An opening reception will be held at the Museum on Friday, March 28, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Janice Mason Art Museum is located at 71 Main Street in Cadiz. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays except Wednesdays, and 1 p.m. -4 p.m. on Sundays. Partial funding has been provided by the Kentucky Arts Council, a state agency in the Education, Arts and Humanities Cabinet with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
