Visions to be at Janice Mason Museum These are some of the works that will soon be on exhibit at the Janice Mason Art Museum as the Kentucky Visions 2003 exhibit begins this weekend. The collection features the works of several Kentucky artists and will remain on display through June 15. The 2002 juried visual arts exhibition, Kentucky Visions, coordinated by the Kentucky Arts Council at the invitation of Governor Paul E. and First Lady Judi Patton, will be featured at the Janice Mason Art Museum after touring four other Kentucky performing arts centers and galleries. The exhibit, presented in partnership with the Pennyroyal Arts Council, features the work of 25 Kentucky artists and will be on display from May 16 through June 15 at the Janice Mason Art Museum, 71 Main Street in Cadiz. Gallery hours are 10am-4pm daily and from 1pm-4pm Sundays, closed Wednesdays. The Kentucky Visions art exhibit is favorite element of the annual Derby festivities at the Governor's Mansion in Frankfort. Now, through the assistance of the Kentucky Arts Council's START initiative, funded by the Lila Wallace Reader's Digest Fund, the exhibit has been provided to five Kentucky Arts Council partner groups participating in this program to increase participation in the arts. The Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg; the Singletary Center for the Arts in Lexington; the Paducah Community College Fine Arts Center; the Ashland Area Arts Gallery (partnering with the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland); and the Janice Mason Art Museum in Cadiz (partnering with the Pennyroyal Arts Council in Hopkinsville); are the five locations for the touring exhibition. "The artists exhibiting works in Kentucky Visions: 2002 provide us with an opportunity to explore the Commonwealth in a new way and to reflect on those visions that may be different than our own," said First Lady Judi Patton. "The range of themes topics, images and ideas, represented in this exhibit, illustrate the intricate landscape that is Kentucky." The touring component of Kentucky Visions 2002 will include the painting and photography of 25 Kentucky artists from across the state of Kentucky. (See attached list of artists.) Juror for Kentucky Visions 2002 was Timothy Weber, Director of Visual Arts, Media, and Craft with the Tennessee Arts Commission. "I found there to be a wonderful variety of approaches that are intuitive, witty, evocative, clever and passionate, with inspired use of materials, that is reflective of not only Kentucky, but also a worlds view, through the eyes of the artists," said Weber.
