The Wildcats (3-3) rode a strong pitching performance by Banks but were slow to catch up to Tiger starter Justin Hageman, Hopkinsville’s highly-scouted junior hurler.
Hageman sent Trigg down in order in each of the first three innings and had a 2-0 cushion entering the bottom of the fourth, when the ‘Cats bats woke up.
Mitch Rogers led off with a single, was sacrificed to second by Banks and scored on a single by Donald Bush.
Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Trigg presented a jam for Hageman. Josh Green and Hunter Smillie each singled to start the frame. Hageman then struck out Jarrod Stallons and Rogers.
Banks singled to left in the next at-bat. The ball was bobbled in left field, but Trigg coach Jackie Sholar elected to hold Green at third rather than send him home as the potential tying run.
Bush worked Hageman to a full count but struck out to end the threat.
The Tigers provided Hageman with two insurance runs in the top of the sixth. After the Wildcats were sent down on three pitches in the bottom of the sixth, Banks kept the Tigers off the board in the top of the seventh to keep Trigg within three.
Once again, the ‘Cats gave the Tigers a scare. Behind strikeouts by Green and Stallons were a walk by Smillie and a single by Rogers. Banks singled up the middle to bring Bush to the plate for another two-out, bases-loaded situation, but the game ended when he flied out to right field.

MURRAY – Trigg split a pair of games Friday in the Tiger Classic at Murray High School.
The Wildcats topped the host Tigers 8-4 Friday afternoon before squandering a 5-0 advantage in a 12-6 loss to Heath.
Trigg was scheduled for a Saturday game against Ballard Memorial that was rained out.

Trigg led 8-6 after the top of the fifth and 8-7 entering the bottom of the ninth, when the Braves scored two runs for the win.
