While family members hold out hope that the killer will be found and brought to justice, they also continue to honor Humphries’ memory and invite members of the community to do the same near the anniversary of her death.
Carrie Baker, Humphries’ younger sister, said family and friends will gather at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at an open lot on the corner of Line Street and Martindale Drive for a remembrance and celebration ceremony.
Baker said there will be several singing groups on hand, and family and friends will provide a tribute to Humphries.
“We’ll do something like this once a year, Lord willing and as long as I’m living,” Baker said. “We want to make people aware that we haven’t forgotten. We want to have a good time. It’s not a time for sadness, it’s a time to remember the time she shared with us.”
Humphries’ murder is listed as a cold case on the Kentucky State Police web site. Detective Michelle Kent of KSP Post One in Mayfield is the investigating officer. She said KSP has received some useful information on the case and continues the investigation.
