Genesis Express held a variety show entitled “A Family Affair” last Saturday evening, which lived up to its name. Families gathered to sing, dance, model clothing and laugh with one another.

The evening began with Emcee Bobby Acree announcing that the evening would offer, “some things you’ve never see before, and some things you may never want to see again.” He introduced Rev. Shalmon Radford backed by the solemn members of Genesis Express.

Rev. Frank Russell opened the evening with a prayer. Acree thanked the pastor and said that Genesis Express was approaching its 20th anniversary,

“We didn’t do this on our own,” he said of the organization. “We did it with a lot of prayer.”

Genesis Express leader George Radford took the podium to thank the community for 20 years of advocacy, and said that the organization’s mission remained unchanged, to help the youth, elderly and needy of the community.

“It is time for Genesis Express to eliminate some of the problems of society. It did not get that way overnight, nor will change come overnight. On November 18. We will present a program called the Triad for Common Change,” said Radford.

The new Triad Program was described by Radford to take a pyramidal shape, with pastors and clergy members at the top, parents on one side of the base and partners in the form of the Genesis Express on the other. The program’s objective is to target minority males in grades 6-12 for academic and character building emphasis. Radford will send a letter to the parents of the young men and telephone them to invite them to the Recreation Complex to discuss research and reports on how to accomplish this objective.
