The month will kick off with a Kentucky Arbor Day Tree Giveaway on Friday, April 3. Again in 2009, Lake Barkley partners with the KY Division of Forestry in encouraging Kentuckians to plant native trees for wildlife, attractive landscaping, and reforestation, especially in the wake of this winter’s devastating ice storm. We’ll have a variety of free native tree seedlings available at 4pm, in front of Barkley Convention Center. Tree planting demonstration and take home instructions will be provided.
On the evening of Friday, April 10, kick up your heels and join us at the Convention Center for a Bluegrass Concert in this evening of music and magic with Brushfire, a talented trio from Lawrenceburg, KY. Brushfire will begin at 7pm, performing two sets of bluegrass with a mixture of other popular styles, as well as a short intermission of magic tricks accompanied by banjo! Dine on the popular buffet of Chef Hattie’s home cooking at Windows on the Water restaurant and add the evening’s concert for a package price of $25/person or $45/couple – or just come to the show for $5/person at the door. Lodging packages are also available for $115/couple, covering Friday evening’s buffet and concert tickets for two and an overnight stay at the Lodge.
On Sunday, April 12, Windows on the Water restaurant will offer its annual Easter buffet, from noon ‘til 8pm, with choice beef carved on the line, KY country ham, roast leg of spring lamb, golden fried catfish, and much more! That afternoon, Lake Barkley showers the fields with eggs in our Egg-ceptional Egg Hunt! Beginning at 1pm at the Lake Barkley Fitness Center, the Easter Bunny will make an appearance, so don’t forget your camera! >From toddlers to teenagers, bring your baskets and gather some egg-ceptional goodies!
For those who appreciate our park and all that it offers our community and visitors, join us at 6pm on Tuesday, April 21 for the monthly meeting of Friends of Lake Barkley, a community-based group with an interest in helping to make our park even better! Topics of this meeting will include a boat cruise fundraiser, upcoming events at the Park, elections for group leadership, and more.
From Saturday, April 18 through Saturday, April 25, Lake Barkley again celebrates Earth Week, our annual festivities related to the region’s spectacular natural surroundings and our connections to them. We offer a full week of nature hikes and boat tours, regional history and folk life programs, “green” lifestyle workshops, nature arts, guest speakers, live animal presentations, trail and shoreline cleanups, live entertainment, astronomy, and more! Experience, learn, and enjoy during Barkley’s Earth Week festivities!
