“The Wiz” features all the characters from “The Wizard of Oz,” although some are creatively renamed. Dorothy will be played by Tabitha Snell; the Scarecrow will be played by Suzanna Sadler; The Tin Man will be played by Kody Davis; the Cowardly Lion will be played by Robert Ingram; the Wiz will be played by Dallas Hart; Aunt Em will be played by Frankie Brown; Addaperle will be played by Stacie Kline.
Karyn Hatfield, Elizabeth Redd, Ashlen Hatfield, Alex Ethridge and Haley Knight will play Munchkins and River Sittig and J.T. Hunt will play mice, which are also listed near the top of the cast list. Fekissa Jones will play the Royal Gatekeeper; Evilene will be played by Courtney Harrison; Lord High Underling will be played by Anna Knight; the Messenger will be played by Faythe Rea and Glinda will be played by Shandi Littlefield.
The rest of the cast will be populated by Wind Dancers, more Munchkins, the Yellow Brick Road (that’s right, it’s played by actors), Kahlidahs, Poppies, field mice, Emerald City citizens, crows, Winkies and winged monkeys.
Director Portia Ezell said that there are 44 cast members, which is one more than last year’s “Suessical: The Musical.” She said she had been hoping more would audition but that many of them are doubling roles. Once again, the cast varies widely in age, although she said there were more high school students to audition this year. She said she was glad about this because it would help the high school’s up-and-coming drama club.
