Jesse Thomas said he has been a lover of vintage cars for years, which inspired him to organize a series of monthly “Cruze-Ins” in the downtown area this summer. He passed out flyers not just downtown but also in Dawson Springs, Hopkinsville and Paducah. He said the events have gotten a fairly good response, also drawing from places like Benton and Clarksville.
Thomas said he now wants to expand the Cruze-Ins to include swap meets. Starting Aug. 10 and continuing on Sept. 14, he is encouraging anyone who is interested to bring any spare car parts they might have to sell. He said many car collectors and those who build and work on old cars often end up with extra parts. When the drivers park their cars on the streets on the second Friday in August, they can set tables so they can peruse one another’s stashes. Thomas said the custom of the swap meet is quite popular at big car shows and basically works like a yard sale. Anyone interested in finding steering wheels, speed gauges, fuel gauges and Baby Moon hubcaps shouldn’t leave disappointed.
“You’ve got to be over 50 to know what Baby Blue hubcaps are,” Thomas said.
