Package liquor license applications for five businesses in Trigg County have been approved by the Kentucky Alcohol Beverage Commission.

Trigg County Alcohol Administrator Jay Geiger said the businesses – Trip’s Liquors at 1120 Canton Road, Main Street Liquors at 317 Main St., Trigg County Liquors at 98 Glenwood Mill Road, Higgins Liquors at 351 Canton Lane and Handy Korner Spirits at 8976 Rockcastle Road – received notification by letters dated March 8.

Trip’s, which was previously Hamtown Restaurant, is owned by Joey Allen, who also owns Ham Town Stop and Go, a convenience store set to open soon. Dan and Lisa Ruzicka own Main Street Liquors, which will be in the building most previously known as Buster’s Dairy Dip. Henry Higgins will own Higgins Liquors near Lake Barkley on U.S. 68. Handy Korner Spirits will be located inside Handy Korner Market, which is owned by Rick and Sharon Chidester.

Geiger said, based on information he believed to be correct at the time, that Trigg County Liquors, owned by Brandon Oliver, would be located inside the Montgomery voting district. However, after consulting with Trigg County Clerk Wanda Thomas, it was confirmed that the address is actually in the South Cadiz No. 1 district. Had Oliver’s license been for a location in Montgomery, the license would not have become valid until the Kentucky Supreme Court rules on whether the precinct can hold a referendum on allowing alcohol sales.

Geiger said each of the businesses is at a different stage of preparedness for operation. Once an owner finishes work on their building, an investigator from Frankfort will perform an inspection. Upon a successful inspection, the business will be allowed to open. Geiger said this process should take less than a month.
