Lisa Coleman leads hospital personnel in a brainstorming session seeking ideas to best utilize existing hospital needs and plan for future growth.
The meeting was open to the public although no formal announcement was made by the hospital.
Hospital CEO Lisa Coleman introduced Don Twining, of AHFE, who reported to the hospital on the condition of its current facilities and the potential expansion in the future. He told those gathered that the hospital could look at expansion to accommodate new physicians and services on the existing campus.
“The old Rural Health Clinic building is almost more of a liability than an asset at this point,’ commented long-time board member Ben Cundiff. “The trailer takes up space that could better be used for something else.”
After being vacated by the practitioners of the Rural Health Clinic, the trailer would be used by the Home Health Service arm of the hospital, said Coleman.
“We think the department where we can make the most money is surgery,” noted board chairman Dr. Michael Gross. “Right now, surgery has leveled off due to the amount of space and equipment that we have at the moment. We have plenty of rooms and plenty of beds, and the emergency room is surviving, but not going to be a money maker.”
Asked if the Trigg County Ambulance Department could be moved to a location away from the hospital to create additional space, Coleman said that it would be possible, as long as the department remained in a central location within the county.
Another board member, John Mark Vinson suggested expansion of the hospital near the old emergency room area, moving a diesel generator and relocating the helipad.
