Both Trigg County High School basketball teams will play in the No. 2/No. 3 games in the first round of next week’s 5th District Tournaments in Marion.

The Wildcats (11-12 as of Monday) earned the second seed outright with a 3-3 record in district play, while the Lady Wildcats (10-10 as of Monday) tied Lyon County (11-13) with a 3-3 district mark.

Lyon County (16-5) earned the top seed in the boys bracket with a perfect 6-0 record in district play. The Lyons open the tournament against No. 4 seed and host Crittenden County (9-14, 1-5 in district) at 6 p.m. Monday.

Lyon owns three regular season wins over the Rockets – two counting toward their district record (55-40 on Dec. 15 in Eddyville and 36-27 on Jan. 15 in Marion) and a 48-28 victory Dec. 19 in the Hopkins County Central Holiday Classic.

The Wildcats and Cardinals play Monday’s nightcap. Those teams split a pair of regular season meetings with Trigg winning 52-48 on Dec. 11 in Smithland and losing 82-70 on Jan. 15 in Cadiz.

Trigg’s and Lyon’s girls teams finished behind top-seed and host Crittenden County (10-11, 4-2 in district) and ahead of No. 4 Livingston Central (9-13, 2-4). The Lady Rockets and Lady Cardinals tip off at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Crittenden and Livingston split their two regular season meetings, with the Lady Rockets winning 51-41 on Dec. 18 in Marion and losing 50-40 on Jan. 16 in Smithland.

Trigg and Lyon will end Tuesday’s action. The Lady ‘Cats and Lady Lyons also split in two meetings this season, with Trigg winning 44-38 on Dec. 18 in Cadiz and losing 50-45 on Jan. 28 in Eddyville.

The boys championship game will be played at 7 p.m. next Thursday. Lyon stacks up well against either potential final round opponent, owning a pair of double digit wins against Livingston (66-46 on Dec. 4 in Smithland and 48-32 on Jan. 5 in Eddyville) and Trigg (53-43 on Dec. 18 in Cadiz and 69-43 on Jan. 22 in Eddyville). Crittenden’s only district win of the season was a 60-51 victory over Livingston on Dec. 18 in Marion. The Cardinals defeated the Rockets 39-36 on Jan. 16 in Smithland. Crittenden lost to Trigg 49-42 on Dec. 4 in Marion and 57-48 on Jan. 26 in Cadiz.

The girls final is set for 7 p.m. next Friday. Crittenden notched a pair of double digit wins over Lyon County this season (54-40 on Dec. 11 in Eddyville and 54-41 on Jan. 15 in Marion) and split with Trigg, with the Lady Rockets winning 71-52 on Dec. 4 in Marion and losing 59-49 on Jan. 5 in Cadiz. Livingston lost three times against Lyon – twice in district play (48-43 on Dec. 4 in Smithland and 70-41 on Jan. 5 in Eddyville) and 48-37 on Jan. 21 in the 2nd Region All “A” Classic – and split with Trigg, winning 48-47 on Dec. 11 in Smithland and losing 61-56 on Jan. 15 in Cadiz.

District tournament finalists automatically qualify for the 2nd Region Tournament the following week. This year, Madisonville-North Hopkins will host the boys tournament and Webster County will host the girls.
