Funeral services for Brenda Faye Poindexter Byars, 51, of Hopkinsville, were conducted on Friday, June 2, 2006, at 1 p.m., at Gamble Funeral Home in Hopkinsville.

Rev. James Dunbar officiated at the services. Burial followed in Lafayette Cemetery.

Mrs. Byars died on Monday, May 29, 2006, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville of natural causes.

Mrs. Byars was born on November 9, 1954, in Christian County. She was the daughter of George M. and JoElla Bell Poindexter.

Mrs. Byars was a cook at Brookfield Manor Nursing Home in Hopkinsville; and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

A son, Walter Antwain Poindexter, and a brother preceded her in death.

Survivors include her parents, George M. and JoElla Bell Poindexter; three sons, Ray Poindexter of Louisville, Antonio Poindexter and DeMarco Poindexter, both of Hopkinsville; two daughters, Lana Poindexter and Tera Babb, both of Hopkinsville; four brothers, Timothy Poindexter of Winston-Salem, N.C., Phillip Poindexter and Christopher Poindexter, both of Hopkinsville, and Corey Poindexter of Cadiz; seven sisters, Bettye Poole, Liz Calloway and Avery Kendred, all of Evansville, Ind., Glenda Wilson and Barbara Myers, both of Hopkinsville, Terrie Poindexter of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Melissa Hodge of Noblesville, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
