Cadiz’s Renaissance on Main program was recertified last week along with 82 other communities from across Kentucky during the summer Main Street Managers meeting. The ceremony was held at Lake Barkley State Resort Park.

Before certificates were distributed, Donna Neary, the executive director of the Kentucky Heritage Council and the state preservation officer, spoke about the value of the Kentucky Main Street/Renaissance on Main program. Teresa Bailey, a Renaissance board member and Mayor Lyn Bailey’s wife, introduced Neary to the crowd. She said that she had had the privilege of being one of the people who had recommended Neary to Gov. Ernie Fletcher, who appointed Neary to her position in April. Bailey said she had been impressed by Neary because of her “enthusiasm and sparkle.”

Neary replaced David L. Morgan, who was executive director for 22 years. Bailey said that since 2000, Neary had been president of Donna M. Neary, Inc., Historical Consulting, and provided expertise in cultural resource preservation law, preservation planning, survey and nomination preparation for the National Register of Historic Places and current issues related to historic preservation, historic structures, cultural landscapes and archaeological sites. Neary’s clients included the Louisville Landmarks Commission, Glassworks, the Lexington Convention and Visitors Bureau, Yew Dell Gardens, Olmsted Parks Conservancy, Mockingbird Valley Preservation Alliance, Inc., Louisville Stoneware and the Kentucky Derby Museum.
