Cadiz Water Commission evaporated?

Last month, the Cadiz Record attempted to attend the Cadiz Water Commission’s monthly meeting, only to find City Hall deserted at the 6 pm, second Monday meeting time. On April 10, 2006, City Administrator Hollis Alexander was asked why.

“Right now, for a number of reasons, the Water Commission only has 2 empaneled members. This is not enough to make decisions or to hold a vote,” the Administrator answered. Alexander said that 2 members of the commission resigned, and knew of “1 or 2 interviews to find replacements that didn’t go anywhere.

Since a full commission is not currently seated, there have been no official changes to water policy made. “Right now, all legal decisions are on hold.”

Alexander said that fiscal oversight was provided by the Cadiz Finance Committee.

As to future policy, he believed that as the Cadiz Water Department was owned and operated by the City of Cadiz, that the City Council would assume the role of decision-making for it.
