A Cadiz man was killed Monday morning on Ky. 274, also known as Rockcastle Road, when a dump truck collided with his motorcycle, according to Trigg County Coroner John Mark Vinson.

The coroner identified the man as Steven R. Samsil, 50, of Little River Court.

A dump truck was traveling on Highway 274 near Moon River Marina and was hauling a trailer carrying a backhoe, and the dump truck was attempting to turn left when Samsil, who was behind the dump truck, tried to pass it, said Vinson.

When Donald Tyler, 68, the dump truck driver, turned into a driveway, he didn’t see Samsil, and turned into the path of the motorcycle, and the two collided, according to Trooper Thomas Clifton of the Kentucky State Police. Vinson pronounced Samsil dead at the scene due to “multiple blunt force injuries.”

Vinson also said he didn’t think the driver would be facing any criminal charges, although the accident is still under investigation. However, Clifton said Tyler was cited by Commercial Vehicle Enforcement for various registration and safety violations.

Samsil’s daughter, who is currently stationed overseas with the U.S. Military, was notified of her father’s death later on Monday by the American Red Cross.

Samsil’s funeral arrangements were unavailable at press time.
