A Cadiz pastor died Friday night after he was involved in a three-car wreck on the Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway near the 31 mile marker, just south of Nortonville in Hopkins County, according to a report by Trooper Carlo Anderson of the Kentucky State Police.

The accident occurred at about 7:15 p.m. on Friday, when the Rev. Frank Russell, 55, of Cadiz, was traveling south on the Parkway in the right hand lane, following his son, 24-year-old Demetrius Russell of Berea, whose vehilce was having mechanical troubles, Anderson said.

A semitrailer driven by Audie J. Mikalauskis, 40, of Pembroke, rear-ended Russell’s Ford Ranger pickup truck after he failed to see Russell’s emergency flashers, at which point Russell’s truck hit his son’s vehicle, causing it to hit an earthen embankment, said Anderson.

The Hopkins County Coroner pronounced Frank Russell dead at the scene of the accident, and both Demetrius Russell and Mikalauskis were taken to Regional Medical Center, Anderson wrote.

The Rev. Russell’s funeral arrangements can be found on page A9.
