It wasn’t the start Amy Breckel was hoping for.

Hoping to carry momentum over into their semifinal game one night after upsetting Crittenden County, the Lady Wildcats were turned away from the start by Caldwell County.

The Lady Tigers ran out to an 11-2 lead and never Trigg County into the game, winning 58-29 March 1 at Wildcat Gym.

The loss ended Trigg County’s season at 8-18.

Caldwell County hit 8-of-15 shots in the first quarter in building an 18-4 lead after the first eight minutes. Trigg hit just 2-of-8 and had five early turnovers.

"Once you get down to Caldwell County, it’s so hard to get back in the game because they are such a good team," Breckel said. "We had some defensive stops, but couldn’t convert on the offensive end."

Caldwell County stretched their lead to 32-8 by halftime and led 44-17 after three quarters.

Amanda Cortner had 23 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Tigers, who also got 11 points from Melly Heaton.

The outcome of the game hinged on two stats.

Caldwell owned a 41-25 advantage on the glass and forced 23 turnovers, including 12 in the first half.

As a result, Caldwell owned a 26-9 advantage in points off turnovers and held a 16-2 margin in second chance points. The 31-point margin Caldwell enjoyed from those two stats was two more than the final margin.

Felicia Crenshaw scored 11 points in her final game as a Lady Wildcat. She was the lone Trigg player in double figures.

Laquisha Boyd had eight points, and eight rebounds, and Molly Walters added seven.

"We put Tiffany (Rozwalka) on (Molly) Walters. Walters had 23 against Crittenden but had just seven points tonight. We put Bristyn (Prowell) on Crenshaw, and she just had 11," Caldwell County coach Andrea Forrester said after the game.

Caldwell County shot 44-percent from the field, compared to just 27-percent for the Lady Wildcats, who saw Caldwell shoot 12 more free throws in the game.
