Carl E. Phillips, 88, of Anna, Ill., formerly of Cadiz, and the Chicago, Ill., area, died on Monday, February 6, 2006, at 6:38 p.m., at the Union County Hospital in Anna. At his request, there will be no services. Interment will be private.

Mr. Phillips was born on January 31, 1917, in Union County, Ill. He was the son of the late George Henry and Molly McNew Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was a 1935 graduate of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School; he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II; was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #150; and was a heavy equipment operator. He was a 33rd Degree Shriner; and a Master Mason.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Aleen “Flo” Phillips.

Survivors include four nieces, Susanne McHenry and Shirley Fuller of Anna, Gladys Jones of Herrin, Ill., and Peg Howard Miller of Kankakee, Ill.; a great-niece, Cheryl Stone of Makanda, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Milt Kubecka of Cobden, Ill.; and Friends, Brenda Rains of Jonesboro, Ill., and Mandy Rains of Vienna, Ill.

Crain Funeral Home in Anna was in charge of all the arrangements.
