Funeral services for Charles William “Bill” Speaks, 74, of Benton, were conducted on Sunday, April 2, 2006, at 2 p.m., at Goodwin Funeral Home.

Rev. Allan Trull officiated at the services. Burial followed in the House Cemetery in Trigg County, with Military Honors provided by the American Legion.

Mr. Speaks died on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at 1 p.m., at his residence of natural causes.

Mr. Speaks was born on February 29, 1932, in Curdsville. He was the son of the late Lewis and Virginia Knott Speaks.

Mr. Speaks worked in Maintenance at the State Parks and was last employed at Ky. Dam Village; was a member of the American Legion; was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict; and was of the Catholic Faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, Lonnie McCoy, Charles McCoy, and Ben Speaks; great-great-grandchild, Audrey Gray; grandparents, Charles Speaks and Agnes Speaks.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Clark McCoy Speaks of Benton; seven sons, Mark Morgeson of Wewahitchka, Fla., Jimmy McCoy, Ronald Wade McCoy, and Earnie McCoy, all of Benton; John McCoy, Jr., of Cadiz; Homer McCoy of Murray, of Murray, and William McCoy of Wake, Va.; two daughters, Barbara Jean Adams of Cadiz, and Carolyn Holloway of Rawlins, Wyo.; 33 grandchildren: and 29 great-grandchildren;

Serving as pallbearers were Ben McCoy, Mike McCoy, John Pepper, Robert Clayton, Tony Peden, and Jerry Willoughby.
