Bro. Billy Thompson officiated at the services. Burial followed in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in White Plains.
Mr. Smith died on Sunday, September 14, 2008, at the Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., of natural causes.
Mr. Smith was the son of the late Russell and Martha Alice Deck Smith.
Mr. Smith was a farmer; a veteran of the U.S. Navy; and a member of the Hopkinsville Gun Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Smith; two brothers, Steve Smith and W.A. Smith; four sisters, Artie Nuggent, Vertie Lee Smith, Clara Alice Reeks, and Emmie Frances Frazier.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Bryant Smith; a daughter, Margaret Smith Young of White Plains; three sons, Roy Smith of Bremen, Billy Smith of Greenville, and James Smith of Gary, Ind.; a brother, Calvin Smith of Kingsport, Tenn.; two step sons, John Gallagher of Hopkinsville and Michael Gallagher of Colorado Springs, Col.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many friends in Trigg and surrounding counties.
Serving as pallbearers were Jonathan Wells, Bennie Bailey, Lynn Lee, Jeff Jordan, Jordan Hollaman, and John Ray Jones.
