With even leftovers becoming a Christmas memory, the City of Cadiz and Trigg County are looking ahead to another annual tradition, the disposal of the Christmas tree.

“We’re asking residents to lay their trees out by the side of the road on any Monday,” said Cadiz Public Works Director Kerry Fowler. “We’ll pick them up and chip them then. Trees will be collected on any Monday, not just the first of the month.”

Fowler said that last year, the city collected “very few trees,” adding, “There weren’t that many at all.”

County Solid Waste Coordinator Lucy Oliver said, “We accept live trees at the county recycling center and will dispose of them properly at no cost. We will dispose of artificial trees for $3.” Oliver said that the county will chip most trees, but residents wishing to recycle trees for use in ponds may call the center at 522-0092 to request a tree.

“Trees are good in ponds for fish. Anyone who wants to place a tree in their pond is welcome to do so,” said Oliver.

The Trigg County Recycling Center is located at 2759 Hopkinsville Road. Oliver said that chipped trees would be used for mulch and other purposes.
