The oldest existing church in Trigg County will be having homecoming services on Sunday.

Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, located near Lake Barkley Lodge, was founded by Elder Fielding in February 1807 as an arm of Muddy Fork Baptist Church in Cerulean. It used to be located near Jefferson and Jones’ Mill near the intersection of Highway 272 and Glenwood Mill Rd., but eventually moved to the Wolf Pen community on Little River. It finally moved to its current location in 1846.

On July 15, everyone in the community is invited to all-day services and dinner at the church grounds. Member Paul Fourshee said many past members who have since moved away have been invited to the services, which will begin at 9:45 a.m. William Amberg of Faith Baptist Church in Benton and Tracey Herald of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Warren, Mich. will be guest preachers. Richard Sexton is the current pastor. After lunch, there will be an afternoon service and regular evening services have been canceled.
