Cadiz Civitan Club met Tuesday, January 18 at the Cadiz Restaurant. President elect, John Mitchell was in charge and said the prayer after David Kyler led the pledge to the U.S.A. flag. The Annual Clergy Night Banquet is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 15 at the Cadiz Restaurant and will be hosted by Civitan Members and spouses. A Fort Campbell Chaplain will speak. Area ministers and spouses are invited.

Civitan International observes clergy week in memory of the 4 chaplains of different faiths, who perished in the North Atlantic 1943 World War II as German U-boats sank the troopship U.S. S. Dorchester. Cadiz Civitans honor area ministers and their wives for sacrifices they make daily in serving their congregations.

In order to keep doing the good work that Civitan Members in Cadiz have been doing for 55 years, the local club needs new members. Civitan motto is “Builders of Good Citizenship” and with that aim, based on Christian principles, Civitan Members can be a strong force working together for the betterment of this community.

The Civitan Club’s main emphasis is placed on mentally handicapped children and making sure their needs are met in school, Special Olympics, and the Annual Christmas Party. Civitans also support research to prevent birth defects and other health problems. A good Civitan gives of self, expecting nothing in return, but those who have been involved in Civitan over the years, can tell you the returns are great in unselfish love. Men and women experience enjoyment and satisfaction beyond imagination.

William Lawrence presented the program, speaking about the services provided at the new Senior Citizens Center. Lawrence also spoke about proposals to consider for a youth center in Cadiz.

Those attending were Harold Parkinson, Carolyn and William Lawrence, John Mitchell, David Kyler, Mike Shepard and Willie Wilson.

John Mitchell closed the meeting by reading the Civitan Creed.
