Although there were six people present, including five of the nine members, there were only three voting members there.
Board Member Ralph Thomas said there was roughly $5,000 left in the recreation complex board’s budget for the current fiscal year, and if it isn’t spent by Wednesday, July 1, the beginning of the next fiscal year, it will be gone.
Thomas suggested to Complex Manager Jerry Radford that he find ways to spend that $5,000 on various safety improvements, and other general improvements, to the complex.
Although the board, at its last meeting on Monday, May 11, had voted not to take the old bleachers from Perdue Field, this decision was revisited. Thomas said that aluminum in the bleachers could be reused for different purposes at the complex, additional railing or gating for example.
“I think we need to readdress this,” Thomas said, referring to use of the bleachers.
A potential agreement between the complex board and Trigg County High School detailing how the high school could use complex facilities was briefly looked at but not voted on. It could be looked at in a more in-depth manner at the next meeting.
According to the proposed agreement, TCHS would pay all of the expenses on the soccer field, as well as the all soccer game and concession expenses. Additionally, the high school would pay for any damages to the field caused directly or indirectly by the high school.
Janice Curtis was scheduled to be at the meeting but wasn’t. Thomas said she was going to talk to the board about making the facilities smoke-free.
Board Member Stacy Futrell said that new gates have been put on both sides of the little fields, and that they have been working great so far. He also said that rocks had been picked up from at least one of the fields.
The board’s next meeting will be held on Monday, July 13, at 6 p.m. at the complex.
