The Trigg County High School site-based decision-making council met last week for the first time since Principal Chad Pruitt resigned from his position. Interim Principal Matt Ladd opened the special-called meeting by saying how appreciative he was of his staff for helping him to adjust to his new responsibilities.

“I’m proud to be a part of this school and I’m proud to be a product of this school,” Ladd said.

The council met in closed session for consultation on hiring a math teacher. When the council reconvened in open session, Ladd announced that Shannon Burcham would be teaching math. Burcham was recently hired to replace Curtis Higgins as head football coach.

Halfway through the meeting, teacher representative Donna Kranz said she had something she wanted to clear up. She said that teachers in the school’s various departments had been informed by Pruitt that the council had approved a budget authorizing the use of department budgets. She said she wanted it written in the minutes that the council had never approved such a budget. Kranz said that it had come to attention that several department budgets had been drained without council approval. She said she thought Pruitt might have mishandled the funds. She said the departments should get their money back, although she said she didn’t know where the money would come from and that a fundraiser might have to be held.
