At last week’s city council meeting, Cadiz City Attorney Alan Wilson and City Council Member Susan Bryant said that while they and the city council had originally thought that state statute required cities to require a vendor list, that is apparently not the case, and the city could get rid of it if they wanted to (see page A8 for story).
“Let’s just leave it as is,” Cadiz Mayor Lyn Bailey said at the finance meeting. Bailey and others at the finance meeting said they were surprised when they found out at the city council meeting that cities didn’t need to require businesses to provide a vendor list.
The city council as a whole will decide whether or not to keep the vendeo list requirement when it meets again on Tuesday, June 2.
The finance committee also discussed the city’s 2009/2010 budget, although no action was taken on the matter. The city budget sits at almost $1.9 million, while the City Water budget sits at about $1.7 million. Cadiz City Clerk Lisa Rogers said that’s less than the 2008/2009 budget.
One of the largest expenditures in the budget is the payroll for the Cadiz Police Department, which is almost $420,000.
City Council Member said in regard to the budget, the city is doing better than many cities, which are suffering from budget shortfalls. City Council Member Manuel Brown commented that the CPD and Renaissance on Main are two departments that are consistently over budget.
The budget will again be discussed at a special called meeting Tuesday and at the city council’s regular June 2 meeting. Rogers said the budget will be amended between now and then.
