Retired U.S. Army col. Dale Kenneth Randels, 80, Covington’s Convalescent Center, Hopkinsville, KY died there at 1:17 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2010 following a long illness.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville with burial to follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West with full military honors.

A native of Oskaloosa, Iowa, he was born May 5, 1930, the son of the late Durwood and Edith Larson Randels. Following 28 years of service, he retired from the Army in 1981 as a Korean and Vietnam veteran. His awards include the Bronze Star and two Oak Leaf Clusters. He was a graduate of the Army War College.

A son, David Keith Randels preceded him in death in March 2000.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Randels, Cadiz, KY; a son, Dale Kenneth Randels, Jr., Nashville, TN.; two daughters, Karen Marie Randels, Cadiz, Tamara Lynn Candler, Prairieville, LA.; two brothers, George Randels, Orlando, FL., Randy Dean Randels, Montezuma, IA, two sisters, Phyllis Anderson, Montezuma, OA, JoAnn Rubel, DesMoines, IA and nine grandchildren; Maggy Randels, Sam Randels, Chris Candler, Kevin Candler, Daniel Candler, Ashley Randels, Tara Randels, Elise Randels and Anna Randels.
