David Anthony Sadler, age 53, of Cadiz died Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at 1:52 p.m. at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville of natural causes.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 17, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at King’s Funeral Home. Visitation was held on Friday, January 16, 2009, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at King’s Funeral Home. Rev. Norman Cotton officiated the service with a eulogy by Coach Joe Kelly Jaggers and Sid McCraw. Burial followed in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Trigg County.

Mr. Sadler was born in Chicago, Ill on January 6, 1956, and was the son of the late David Clarence Sadler and the late Marie Flood.

He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church and a charter member of the Ponderosa Baptist Church.

He was a former all-state football player at Trigg County who went on to play football for Paul “Bear” Bryant at Alabama. He was a two-way starter on the offensive and defensive line for Trigg County’s state championship teams in 1971-72. He earned a scholarship to the University of Alabama and was a three-year letterman, becoming a starter and captain on the 1975 Crimson Tide team that beat Penn State in the Sugar Bowl. During his senior year for the Crimson Tide he started both ways. He was an Alumni of the Alabama “A” Club and Alabama National Alumni Association. He was a charter member of the Trigg Co. Football Alumni Hall of Fame and his jersey #76 is retired by the school.

He was a logger.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Lynda Moore Sadler of Cadiz and three daughters: Suzanna Marie Sadler, Katherine Brooke Sadler and Victoria Lyn Sadler all of the home; his father Robbie Flood of Cadiz; three brothers and sister-in-laws, Phillip and Lugene Sadler, Mike and Lisa Sadler and Micah Flood all of Cadiz. Four sisters, Dana Cross, Spring Flood and Codie Flood all of Cadiz and Judy Moore of Hopkinsville. Also a number of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

In addition to his mother and father he was preceded in death by a son Benjamin Allen Sadler and nephew Michael Colin Sadler.

Pallbearers were Alabama football players and honorary pallbearers were Brant Cross, David Austin Cross, Alex Sadler, Drew Sadler, Lauren Sadler and Jordan Sadler.

Music was provided by Jan Oakley, pianist.
