Funeral services for Delmer Gray Hargis, 70, of the Caledonia Community of Trigg County, were conducted on Friday, November 7, 2008, at 2 p.m., at Locust Grove Baptist Church. Goodwin Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Rev. John Hagan and Donald Hargis officiated at the services. Burial followed in the Jones Cemetery in Caledonia.

Mr. Hargis died on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at 6:38 a.m., at his home following a bout with cancer.

Mr. Hargis was born on March 21, 1938, in Stewart County, Tenn. He was the son of the late Dessie Gray and Lula Geneva Greenhill Hargis.

Mr. Hargis was a farmer; was retired from H & R Agri Power; was the owner and operator of Fairdealing Repair Service; was a Farm Equipment Service Tech for 42 years; was a member of the Caledonia Volunteer Fire Department; member of the Hillside Tractor Pullers; and was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jeanette Swatzell Hargis of Caledonia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Peggy Hargis and Steven and Annette Hargis; and daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Richie Boyd, all of Caledonia; seven grandchildren, Jason Hargis, Alison Hargis, Amanda Hargis, Betsy Shemwell, J.P. Shemwell, Hunter Hendon, and Haley Hendon; a great-grandchild, Hattie Grace Shemwell; and a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Frank McBride of Hopkinsville.

Serving as pallbearers were Bill Garnett, Jerry Cunningham, Bobby Shemwell, George Humphries, Terry Stagner, Mike Morris, Wendell Sholar, and Mike Sadler.

Honorary pallbearers were Donnie Shemwell, Clayton Sholar, Henry Mitchell, Ike Johnston, Homer Wilson, Gene Joiner, Bill Outland, James Butts, Jesse Sumner, Jr., Bro. Clarence Brock, Dalton Sholar, Ken Ast, John Bridges, Israel Toledo, and Marvin Bass.

Vicki Bridges, organist, Suellen Hendricks, pianist, Jason Hargis, vocalist, and Locust Grove Baptist Church Choir provided the music.
