Downed power lines caused a loss of electricity for customers and forced the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet personnel to close about three miles of Highway 68/80 between Highways 1489 and 272 for about two hours starting shortly after 12 noon on Monday, Jan. 12.

Officers with the Kentucky State Police and Trigg County Sheriff’s Department were assisted by Kentucky Transportation Cabinet personnel, and a detour was established at both points, said Keith Todd, public information officer for the Kentucky Highway Department, Districts One and Two.

Approximately 1,200 Pennyrile Electric customers were without power for about an hour and a half after a piece of equipment on a truck hit the top of a utility pole, but the power was back on for all of them shortly before 2 p.m. on Monday, Ricky Turner with Pennyrile Electric said.
