The Boots Randolph Scholarship is given in honor of the famous saxophone player and musician, Boots Randolph, who was raised in Trigg County and returned on many occasions to entertain the residents in the area. This year’s recipient of the scholarship is Emily Shipley. Emily plans to attend Murray State University to major in Electromechanical Engineering Technology. Her parents are Ken and Martha Shipley.
The Class of 1950 has established a scholarship to assist students who are furthering their education at a College, Vocational or Technical School. This year’s recipient is Jennifer Hyde, the daughter of David and Michelle Hyde. Jennifer is enrolled in Murray State University in the Pre-Veterinary Medicine program. She then plans to apply to Auburn University to the Veterinary School.
Scholarships honoring twin brothers and long-time Trigg County doctors, Dr. Elias and his wife, Anna Duncan Futrell and Dr. John and his wife, Mary Futrell are given jointly to one recipient. This year’s recipient is Haley Thomas who is presently attending Hopkinsville Community College and planning to transfer to West Kentucky Community & Technical College to become a Dental Hygienist. Haley is the daughter of Mike and Missy Thomas.
The Fannye Wallace Scholarship was founded by the Cadiz Women’s Club to honor Fannye Wallace who served the community for fifty years a teacher, principal in the Golden Pond & Canton area and later as the principal of the Cadiz Elementary School. Receiving this scholarship is James E. Whittington, the son of Danean and Darrell Hammond. James is attending Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia where he is pursuing studies for his call into ministry.
Following consolidation, the Cadiz High School became part of the Trigg County High School. The members of the Cadiz High School Alumni have established the Cadiz High School Alumni Scholarship fund. This year’s recipient, Zachary Fuller, plans to transfer to University of Kentucky after attending Hopkinsville Community College where he will study Agricultural Engineering. He is the son of John and Debbie Fuller.
The Trigg County High School Alumni established a scholarship in honor of Roy McDonald, an educator and long-time superintendent of Trigg County Schools. Ms. Jean Ricks, a former employee of the Trigg County Schools left a generous bequest to the Roy McDonald Scholarship Fund. The following three students have received these scholarships:
Tanner Stallons is the son of Lance and Angie Stallons. He is presently attending Hopkinsville Community College for one year. He then plans to transfer to University of Kentucky and major in Physical Therapy.
Cameron Sumner is attending Kentucky Wesleyan College where he enrolled in Pre-Pharmacy. He is the son of Terry and Lisa Sumner.
Amelia Futrell is the daughter of Sean and Carla Futrell. She is enrolled at Murray State University where she is in the Pre-veterinary program. Her future plans are to attend Auburn University for a Veterinarian Degree.
Each year, Ms. Marie Cunningham, who taught in Trigg County Schools for 32 years and was well known as a community leader, personally funded a scholarship for a deserving student. Ms. Marie who was one of the founding members of the Trigg County Educational Foundation, died earlier this year. The Foundation voted to award the funds raised through the Kroger Cares Program in her honor. The recipient of the scholarship is Trisha H. Patel. Trisha is the daughter of Harry and Bela Patel and is enrolled at the University of Louisville majoring in Biology with plans to enter Medical School.
Ann Egerton funds the George and Mary Emma Bleidt Scholarship in honor of her parents. This scholarship is awarded to a descendent of a resident of the Land Between the Rivers now known as The Land Between the Lakes. Casey Lyn Alexander was awarded this scholarship. She is the daughter of William Michael and Pam Alexander. She is enrolled at the University of Kentucky were she is majoring in Chemical Engineering.
A second scholarship funded by Ann Egerton is the Gertie Thomas Memorial Scholarship. This is given in honor of Gertie Thomas who was a special friend of the Bleidt family. This year’s recipient of the Gertie Thomas Memorial Scholarship is Amber Grubbs. Amber is attending Campbellsville University where she is studying Political Science. She is the daughter of Scottie Nance and Ramisha Cobb.
The Trigg County Public Schools Educational Foundation is a non-governmental, non-profit organization managed by a board of trustees. The primary purpose is to provide supplemental support for the programs, scholarships, and activities of the Trigg County School District.
A donor may contribute to any of the established scholarships or projects of the Trigg County Public Schools Educational Foundation. Any individual or group wishing to establish other scholarships or projects is encouraged to do so. Contributions are tax deductible since the Foundation is incorporated as a non-profit organization in accordance with IRS regulations. The Imagination Library which provides a free book a month for every child from birth to age five is also under the umbrella of the Trigg County Public Schools Educational Foundation. Contributions to help continue this program can also be made through the Foundation.
