Mr. Atkins was born February 20, 1932 in Grand Rivers, the son of the late Elmo Douglas Atkins and Euple Dean Finley Atkins. He had worked at IKT Service Inc. for 36 1/2 years, and retired while working at Motor Electric in 1992. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers in infancy and one sister, also in infancy.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Anne Poindexter Atkins of Hopkinsville, one son, Edward Douglas “Doug” Atkins Jr. of Hopkinsville, two daughters, Judy A. Stratton of Greenbrier, Tenn., and Mrs. Oscar (Patty) Fussenegger of Union, Ky., one brother, Herman (Loretta) Atkins of Hopkinsville, one sister, Shirley J. Forguson of Denton, Texas, and five grandchildren, Adam Fussenegger of Jeffersonville, Ind., Joe (Katie) Fussenegger of Simpsonville, Chris Fussenegger of Union, Mark Fussenegger of Union, and Katherine Atkins of Hopkinsville, and his Beloved family pet of 11 years, Angie.
