The Trigg County School System got a clean bill of financial health from their auditors at the Thursday, Jan. 12 School Board Meeting, where it was also announced that plans are underway to replace the heating and air system for the elementary school’s basement.

Bruce Nelson, of JKS Architects and Engineering, told the board it would be a “significant project” which will require them to “get in, get out” this summer.

In addition to replacing the HVAC system, which is to eradicate the mold which has long been a problem in the school’s basement, JKS will also add bracing to walls on the lower floor, install new exterior doors around the school’s perimeter and re-roof the gymnasium.

The cost of the project is estimated at $769,000.

McGinnis said cash-on-hand would fund $127,000 of the project, while the remainder would be funded by bond sales.

The project is dependant on Gov. Ernie Fletcher signing a state budget that will fund such bonds. McGinnis said, however, he is confident that will be the case, and is getting the ball rolling now so the project can be completed during summer break.

In other action, Anna Gentry, of Kem, Deiguid and Associates, gave the school system a “clean audit” for the 2005 fiscal year, as she walked board members through the lengthy report.

Standing in for Athletic Director Taylor Sparks, High School Principal Sharon Knight shared with the board the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s Title IX report. Title IX was mandated by the federal government in 1972, and is meant to promote gender equity in public school athletics programs.

“We came out great, we truly did,” Knight said.

She said the school received only two citations, one for insufficient storage space and another for a uniform-replacement policy that needs some modification.
