Ernest Richard Worthington, 87, of Cadiz, passed away at 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at his residence in Cadiz of natural causes. Services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at King’s Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Cannon officiating. Burial followed at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville..

Worthington was born Jan. 23, 1922 in Greenwood, S.C., the son of the late Richard Jefferson Worthington and the late Corrie Lee Shannon Worthington.

Worthington was a member of Canton Baptist Church, and was a retired welder and a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in World War II.

In addition to his parents, Worthington is preceded in death by first wife Eveyln Worthington, a set of twins that died in infancy, his two step sons Ivin and Jim Loftis, one step grandchild and three sisters.

Survivors include his current wife of 22 years Tina Worthington of Cadiz, his son James Worthington of Dallas, Texas, his step sons Bogue Loftis of Van Buren, Ind., Gearld Loftis of Gas City, Ind., John Loftis of Murray, Charles Bennie Loftis of Washington, Mike Loftis of Van Buren, Ind., and Dale Loftis of Cadiz, as well as his daughters Betty Rich of Vancouver, Wash., and Geraldine Loftis of Cadiz.

He is also survived by his sisters Runett Smith of North Carolina and Sara Gideon of South Carolina, eight grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, 15 step grandchildren, 25 step great grandchildren and four step great great grandchildren.
