Nearly every county has a family or families that turn out great athletes at the rate McDonalds turns out Big Macs. It is often a big family that has lots of children. Those children then produce their own generation of athletes. It is at this point that I want to post a question to the knowledgeable readers of my Coach’s Corner Column. Who are the greatest athletic families in the history of Trigg County?
Let me qualify that question. Base your answer on the families’ contributions to the athletic programs at Trigg County High School. There may be families out there with great athletes but were simply backyard legends. I am talking about folks that actually put their skills on the line in high school athletics.
Let’s discuss some of our surrounding counties to get warmed up. I will list the county and the names I think of when it comes to athletics.
Christian County – Bussell, Quarles, Torain, Buckner; Todd County – Andrews, Woodard; Caldwell County – Boyd; Paducah St. Mary – Roof; Lyon County – Rogers; Livingston Central – Ringstaff;
Trigg County - ?????
I ran these names by Jim Wallace before they were put in print. We seemed to come up with the consensus list above. I hope this week you will contact me with your thoughts on Trigg County’s greatest athletic families. I have six in mind at the present time. I want to see if anyone else has some names different than mine. Contact me this week with your opinion.
