The Trigg County Country Ham Festival’s planning committee met for the final time before this year’s 31st annual event planning work assignments for committee members and to announce entertainment and attractions.

The first event announced is a horse pull on October 5.

The week officially kicks off with a 6 a.m. breakfast at the Lake Barkley Convention Center on October 8. The breakfast, a fundraiser for the Trigg County Chamber of Commerce offers the committee a chance to recognize outstanding contributors and volunteers to the event.

Tickets are available from local chamber members and in area banks for $15, an increase from $12 last year.

Melissa Noel said vendor packets would be available for general vendors at the Ham Festival information booth, and for food vendors on Thursday in the rear parking lot of the Trigg County Schools’ complex.

This year, the festival will use the schools as a staging area for food vendors, before calling them individually to food concession areas along Marion Street and at the Cadiz Farmer’s market. “We’ll call them in on the radio when we are ready, approximately every 10-15 minutes.”

Janeen Tramble said that the ham contest would be near the Cadiz Christian Church.

The County Extension agency would provide tables for the event, since the former courthouse lawn is now a construction zone. She added that the Extension

Agency would host a food and crafts contest, though the usual canning contest would not be held this year.

Lucy Oliver asked if the Ham Festival would provide information and be willing to assist in a survey of residents about the need for broadband Internet access in the community. Committee Chairperson Thelma Fowler said that the for-profit company would need to purchase a booth.

“If we did it for them, we would need to do it for everyone,” said Noel.
