Ezell said that the volunteer firefighters fill out a secret ballot and choose who they want to give the awards to and was grateful to be recognized by his peers.
“I was really shocked,” he said. “I’ve only been with them a little over a year and a half.”
Woods said he joined the department because he had had some friends who volunteered and they were short-handed at the time. Since joining, he has appreciated it very much because it has filled a void in his life now that he is no longer in the United States Marine Corps. He said he loves the camaraderie and teamwork he experiences on the job and that he feels obligated to do his part for the community.
