Cindy Sholar of Renaissance on Main, said it was probably the best first day in the farmer’s market’s 10-year history. “It’s been very successful, we started out with one farmer, and it’s grown over the past ten years, and they tell me it’s been the best opening day, and the most vendors on opening day,” she said.
Some of the vendors have been working with the farmers’ market since it started, added Sholar.
Kathy Peyton, who sells baked goods such as sour dough bread, said this is her sixth year at the farmer’s market, and said it was a very good first day for her.
“It’s going good. It’s a slow start, it’s the very first day, but we’ve sold several things,” said one of the vendors, who said it was his second year of attending the farmers’ market.
Some of the vendors explained that produce such as spinach and broccoli are harvested earlier than other vegetables, and that as the year progresses, different produce and other items are sold at the farmer’s market.
