Funeral services for Fred Clayton, 82, of Hopkinsville, formerly of Princeton, were conducted on Friday, February 23, 2007, at 3 p.m., at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.

Family and friends officiated at the services. A private burial followed the services.

Mr. Clayton died on Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at 2:15 a.m., at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville following an illness.

Mr. Clayton was born February 9, 1925, in Hopkins County. He was the son of the late Aubey and Frances Hancock Clayton.

Mr. Clayton was a retired teacher and football coach, and was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served during WWII.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Dean Clayton; and a brother, J.L. Clayton.

Survivors include his wife, Dean Beard Clayton of Hopkinsville; a son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Anita Clayton of Franklin, Tenn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol Clayton and David Birdsong of Brentwood, Tenn.; five grandchildren and spouse, Lauren Clayton and Micah Lester of Gracey, Louis Clayton of Lexington, and Matthew Birdsong, Carson Birdsong, and Ross Birdsong, all of Brentwood, Tenn.; and a sister, Sue Winebarger of Madisonville.

Serving as pallbearers were Pat Gates, Steve Pardue, Dennis Tomek, Randy Dorroh, Steve Loveless, and John Faulk.
