“We teamed up with Austin Peay because of Military Night on Saturday,” said Chris Campbell, a Child Youth Services Deployment Program Specialist. “We got kids whose parents are active duty to come out for a skills clinic and a meet-and-greet with the players. The camps were awesome. The kids had an opportunity to go to the clinic and learn. Then they got to come to the Dunn Center and watch those skills put into action on the floor. Getting to do the hands-on work and then getting to see it put to work was a quite an experience for these kids.”
The clinics were split into two groups. The boys clinic began at 11:30 a.m. at Austin Peay’s Foy Center and was conducted by men’s head basketball coach Dave Loos. The girls clinic, meanwhile, started at 1 p.m. at the Foy Center and was directed by women’s head coach Carrie Daniels.
At the clinic, kids were divided into small groups and went through stations – conducted by the Governors and Lady Govs basketball teams – where they were taught basketball fundamentals. Following the clinic, participants were invited to the Dunn Center to watch each team practice followed by an autograph session with the players and coaches.
