Funeral services for Gene Wright, 68, of Cadiz, were conducted on Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at 3:30 p.m., at the Cadiz Baptist Church with King’s Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Rev. Kevin Roberts, Rev. Jason Strickland, Rev. Wayne Glass, and Berlin Moore officiated at the services. Burial followed in East End Cemetery in Cadiz.

Mr. Wright died on Saturday, April 7, 2007, at 8 a.m., at his residence following a long battle with cancer.

Mr. Wright was born on August 16, 1938, in Crittenden County. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Lossie McKinney Wright.

Mr. Wright was an active member of Cadiz Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon since 1967, and served on numerous committees; he was a local barber for 47 years; he served multiple terms on the Cadiz City Council; served as magistrate on the Fiscal Court for five terms; Booster Club President 1977-78; was awarded the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2005; was a long-time supporter of the Trigg County Basketball and Athletic Programs and was awarded the Wildcat Fan of the Year in 2004.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Edward Wright.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mary Ann Perry Wright of Cadiz; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Penny Wright of Cadiz; a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Wayne Glass of Princeton; a sister-in-law, Dianne Wright of Parkersburg, WV; and two grandchildren, Zack Wright and Zeke Wright.

Music was provided by Mary Skaggs, pianist, Gary Thompson, organist, Zack Wright and Bailey Bryant, vocalists, and the Congregational Hymns were led by Bob Higbee.

Serving as pallbearers were Neal Cummins, Greg Glass, Eddie Wright, Craig Perry, Winston Perry, Jimmy Futrell and Steve Allen.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Mace Rothenbert, Dr. Harold Mines, Harold Knight, Berlin Moore, Ronald Anderson, James Ladd, Daniel Hale, Jim Wallace, Jack Creekmur, Brent Thompson, Forest Goodman, Tommy Dunn, Eldridge Rogers, Steve Guess, Oscar Mitchell, Bob Broadbent, Ben Cundiff, Steve Skinner and Ken Simms.
